For Writers

Monday’s Tweets and My Musings from 04/03/2017

Good Tuesday morning, everyone. Here to share yesterday’s tweets on writing and craft and a few of my own thought.

Lydia Oyetunji discusses The Proper Use of Italics and Over-Emphasizing on Two Drops of Ink.

Ruth Kaufman discusses Writing the Inspirational Historical: How Much is Too Much? on Romance University.

Sacha Black shares 7 Description Tactics — The Art of Writing – Deconstructing Lauren Oliver.

I came across some good advice: 7 Steps to Reclaiming Your Brain by Monica Corwin on the SavvyAuthors blog.

From the Self-Publishing Advice Center: How to structure archetypal stories – Putting your readers’ emotions first

Derek Haines says: :”It’s not easy to come to the conclusion that a book you have painstakingly written is a failure, but sometimes you have to take it on the chin, let it go and decide to kill a book.?” Read Time to Kill a Book on The Vandal.

As for me, I was thinking about the dreaded saggy middle of a book. I’ve collected a lot of thoughts about it in the Dancing On Coals How-To book Dodging the Dreaded Saggy Middle. It’s difficult to avoid having a saggy middle unless you deliberately pay attention to your story’s structure and pacing, but with some planning you can avoid watching the middle of your book sag and drag. Just remember that scenes without purpose almost always drag, and drag almost always turns into sag.

Now go … write stuff.
